The following is a recommended timeline for you to consider when submitting an application to graduate school or the Fall (September) term. When applying for graduate school, it is important that you consider the application deadline of the program to which you would like to apply as this can affect your timeline accordingly. Students who submit their applications early increase their chances of securing financial support for their graduate studies.
August – October | Submit applications for external scholarships (e.g. SSHRC, NSERC, OGS). This will need to be done up to a year before your plan on attending graduate school. The deadlines for submission may vary depending on your current institution’s requirements. |
October – December | Review program requirements and start an online application in Carleton360. |
October – December | Request letters of reference from your professors. In your online application, you will be required to submit contact information for each referee, including their email address. Once you have submitted your online application, and paid the application fee, each referee will automatically be notified by email, asking them to fill in a Referee Appraisal Form. |
January – March | Complete the online application and submit all supplementary documents (reference letters, transcripts, etc.) by the application deadline for your particular program. |
April – August | Offers of Admission and Funding will be sent to successful applicants. You will have 21 days (unless otherwise indicated) to log in to Carleton Central and accept your offer online. Offers may be sent earlier. |
July – September | Course registration takes place online through Carleton Central. |
First week of September | Orientation activities take place. |
Second week of September | Fall term classes begin. |
